The Nigerian Government has extended warm congratulations to the Government and people of Kuwait on the occasion of their National Day celebrated annually on 25 February.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the government noted that Kuwait’s National Day commemorates the historic ascension of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah to the throne in 1950 — a pivotal moment that laid the foundation for modern statehood and ultimately led to Kuwait’s independence on 19 June 1961.

The leadership and vision demonstrated during that formative period, Nigeria stated, continue to inspire Kuwait’s impressive national development and institutional growth.

Nigeria commended Kuwait for distinguishing itself as a stable and progressive nation in the Gulf region, highlighting its meaningful contributions to regional peace, economic cooperation, humanitarian assistance, and multilateral diplomacy.

The statement further praised Kuwait’s constructive engagement within the international community and its commitment to sustainable development and global partnerships.

Both countries, the Ministry noted, enjoy cordial and mutually beneficial relations anchored on shared values of sovereignty, mutual respect, and constructive engagement.

Nigeria and Kuwait have maintained cooperation across bilateral and multilateral platforms, particularly within the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the United Nations system, among other international institutions.

The statement expressed appreciation for Kuwait’s engagement in development cooperation and humanitarian initiatives, as well as the growing economic and diplomatic exchanges between the two nations.

As Kuwait marks this important national milestone, Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties, expanding economic collaboration, and deepening people-to-people exchanges for the mutual benefit of both countries.

The Government and people of Nigeria wished His Highness the Amir, the Government, and the people of Kuwait continued peace, prosperity, and progress.
