Nigeria Golf Federation President Promises New Era For Golf
The Director-General, National Council of Arts and Culture, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, who was recently elected president of the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF), has promised a new era for the sport in Nigeria.
Runsewe was elected unopposed as the NGF president by the national delegates of the federation from various geo-political zones. The election at the Indoor Hall of Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, also produced Air Commodore Solomon as the Federation’s vice president.
Speaking on his plans for the sport, Runsewe said his new position would help in his quest to create a new economy around golf. The NCAC Director General, who recently started Golf Garden in Abuja, said he would position Nigeria to be ready for the estimated $4 billion, which would circulate around golf in Africa by 2023.
“This largesse would only go to nations that are prepared. By preparation, I mean what we will have on the ground before that time,” Runswee said. “Since the fund would revolve essentially around golf equipment, hotels and logistics, this is reason I am ensuring capacity building at the Golf Garden. “
“I can tell you that before that time, I must have created my own golf brand, the OSR brand, which will undertake manufacturing of golf equipment and golf apparels. “
“I really want to create a healthy synergy, I mean digital golfing synergy, between our pros and the ones in Europe and America. I have started with 10 of our pros and I will take those 10 to places across the world. I want us to really reap from goodies world golf would bring to Africa,” Runsewe concluded.
