Nigeria, Liberia to promote culture and trade investment

Nigeria and Liberia are set to establish a “friendship association” under the African Union with the aim to promote culture, trade and investment.

 

The Liberian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Al-Hassan Conteh stated this in Lagos during a one-day Ambassadorial Forum held in Lagos with the theme; ‘Nigeria-Liberia relations’.

 

According to the Ambassador, Nigeria and Liberia have excellent bilateral partnership on human capital development, investment in agriculture and sustainable peace and security in the sub-region.

 

“Nigeria and Liberia have sustained their cordial diplomatic relations ever since both countries 

signed the economic, trade, peace and security cooperation agreement in 1987,” the Ambassador added.

 

The Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Professor Eghosa Isaghae said that Liberia is a country with immense opportunities and potentials just as Nigeria hence the reason for their long time association.

 

Professor Osaghae noted that Liberia is one of the countries that led and supported strongly the movement for Pan- Africanism in foreign relations.

 

Similarly, a senior Research fellow in the Institute, Dr. Godwin Ichimi lauded the government of Nigeria and Liberia for rising above the devastating impact of their respective civil wars and making progress in democratisation.

 

Dr. Ichimi emphasized that Nigeria and Liberia experienced the turmoil of the civil war and survived it making them the hope of some countries that have experienced such.
