With unity, faith and commitment, Nigerians will be able to conquer all the challenges they are experiencing as a nation.
The Presidential candidate of Nigeria’s governing party, the All Progressives Congress, APC Mr. Bola Tinubu stated this at a “Meet the Mentor” dinner organised in his honour by the Progressives Sisters Network, PSN in Abuja.
Mr Tinubu noted that Nigeria is experiencing its current challenges because leaders failed to effectively harness the country’s abundant mineral resources.
He promised to effectively harness Nigeria’s natural resources to make the country great.
“As a nation, we are facing some challenges, but these challenges can be overcome, we have the capacity to find our ways in situations where it seems there is no way.
“Please let’s work together to build the Nigeria of our dreams together.
“I know it is difficult not to look for the easy way in today’s Nigeria, but together with our faith in one another and our nation, we can solve our problems.
“We will achieve greatness in this country, let us just believe in ourselves” Tinubu said.
Earlier Speaking, the PSN National Co-ordinator, Ms Rinsola Abiola, said the event was convened to make it clear to all Nigerian women that Tinubu is the candidate she is supporting and the candidate to vote for.
She said the Progressives Sisters Network was supporting and committed to actualising Tinubu’s presidential ambition because of his commitment to women’s development.
“We are dedicated to his campaign because he has dedicated several decades of his life to the country that we all call home.
“From the bitter, drawn-out struggle against military dictatorship to his relentless efforts to steady the ship of our nascent democracy.
“Tinubu has proven himself to be a patriot in every sense of the word and a man who loves Nigeria and can be trusted to lead the country.
“He has also displayed an uncanny ability to spot and nurture talent, and so we are confident that when he wins by God’s grace, he will constitute a team made up of those who are eminently qualified,” she said.
The PSN national co-ordinator noted that during the APC’s Presidential Candidate’s time as governor of Lagos State, women played key roles in his administration, including the late Yeye Olukemi Nelson who served as his Commissioner for Women Affairs.
“Tinubu understands that tackling the issue of women’s under-representation in all spheres of life is something that must be done from different angles: political inclusion, economic empowerment, and girl-child education.
“Lagos, the state which Tinubu once governed and is being managed in accordance with his blueprint, also leads the way in legal protection for women.
“With an agency dedicated to diligently prosecuting all forms of domestic and sexual abuse, Lagos has signalled that there will be zero tolerance for the oppression and violation of women.
“It is also key to note that it was Tinubu who appointed the first female Chief Judge in Lagos State: Justice Ibilola Sotuminu now retired.
“His wife, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has also shattered records as the first woman in history to serve for three terms in the Nigerian Senate,” Abiola said.
Speaking at the dinner, the Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila said Mr. Tinubu is his mentor and enumerated some of the lesson’s he has learned from the APC Presidential flagbearer.
He said the APC Presidential Candidate practices People oriented politics and leadership style regardless of religion and tribe.
“Throughout his political career, Asiwaju has never forgotten that all political and governing decisions must have, at their core, considerations of what is best for the individual citizens.
“Personnel is policy; the quality of the people you surround yourself with in public office will determine the quality of policy design and implementation. As Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju composed a cabinet of men and women drawn from different states and regions, representing various religious and cultural affiliations. I learned from Asiwaju that what matters is the quality of the person, not where they come from, their gender or religion.
“Asiwaju taught us that the promise of democracy is not perfection. The promise of democracy is accommodation and dedication to service in the best interest of the collective. And we learned from Asiwaju that the private ambitions of any one individual must never take pre-eminence over the shared interests of the community, the party, or the country” Gbajabiamila said.
