Nigeria and the Kingdom of the Netherlands have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
At an engagement held at the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dunoma Ahmed, received the Netherlands’ Sahel Envoy, Mr Robert Zimmerman, and his delegation for discussions focused on expanding cooperation and addressing shared regional and global challenges.

The meeting reviewed the long-standing Nigeria–Netherlands relationship, which dates back to 1960, and explored collaboration in key areas such as trade and investment, energy transition, agriculture, water management, youth empowerment, migration governance, maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, counter-terrorism, and multilateral cooperation.

Both sides emphasised a partnership founded on mutual respect, equality and shared values, with a focus on tackling the root causes of insecurity, promoting sustainable development, and strengthening people-to-people ties.

The dialogue also highlighted the importance of cultural diplomacy, knowledge exchange and private-sector engagement in driving inclusive growth.
The engagement concluded with a renewed commitment to sustained dialogue and expanded cooperation in support of regional stability, economic diversification and a rules-based international order.
