The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to national security, defence reforms and the welfare of service personnel as Nigeria marked the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day with a Gala and Award Night.
Speaking at the event, the Minister described the occasion as a solemn yet proud moment in the nation’s calendar, blending remembrance, reflection and celebration.

He noted that the ceremony was designed to honour the memory of fallen heroes while celebrating the courage, professionalism and sacrifices of serving personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Musa paid glowing tribute to officers and men who lost their lives in the defence of the country, describing their sacrifice as the foundation of Nigeria’s freedom and sovereignty according to him, the nation’s peace and stability rest on the bravery of those who paid the supreme price and those who continue to stand guard, often at great personal cost.
The Minister also congratulated award recipients, noting that the honours symbolised more than personal achievement.
He said each award told a story of courage, resilience and unwavering commitment to duty, many of which were carried out quietly and away from public attention, yet remained central to Nigeria’s national security architecture.
Special appreciation was extended to the families of fallen heroes, whom the Minister described as silent bearers of sacrifice.
He acknowledged their pain and loss, assuring them that the legacy of their loved ones would remain permanently woven into the nation’s history.
Musa also saluted military veterans, whose service laid the foundation upon which today’s Armed Forces continue to build.
Reaffirming the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister emphasized that security remains the bedrock of national development.
He said the administration has prioritised defence reforms, modernisation of capabilities, improved welfare for service personnel and strengthened joint operations among the Armed Forces, in collaboration with other security agencies.
According to him, these efforts are already yielding results across land, maritime and air domains, with measurable progress in restoring peace and stability across the country.
The Minister commended President Tinubu for his leadership as Commander-in-Chief, describing his vision and commitment as instrumental in repositioning Nigeria’s defence architecture.
He said under the President’s leadership, defence reforms have gained clarity, critical capabilities have been enhanced and the Armed Forces continue to receive strategic support necessary to safeguard national security and sustainable development.
