Nigeria to evolve strategies to surmount security challenges – President Buhari

Nigerian President, Mohammadu Buhari, says the nation and its security apparatuses will keep on evolving new strategies to surmount security challenges facing the country.

The president stated this at passing out ceremony of 205 cadets of the 4th regular course of the Nigeria Police Academy Wudil, Kano state, North Western Nigeria.

He said his administration is consciously fighting Banditry, Kidnaping, Boko Haram and threats from the Indigenous people of Biafra IPOB, Eastern Security network ESN with high degree of success, but said more needs to done with innovative strategies.

 

This administration has also focused on security by repositioning our national securities to perform their duties effectively. 

 

“We have equally embarked on some crucial changes in their funding structure and mode of operation.

 

“In a world, where insecurity is constantly evolving, the enforcement responses have to equally evolve, not just to keep up, but to stay ahead,” said the President.

 

The president said much has been achieved in his administration’s tripod areas of security, building a sustainable economy and fight against corruption, explaining that peace has relatively returned to towns and villages earlier troubled despite pockets of challenges.

 

On the Nigeria Police, the President said his administration has signed into law, the new police act to ensure improvement in the welfare and service delivery for them to reach best international practices.

 

 “I commend the effort and resilience of the Nigeria Police Force and sister agencies for the giant strides recorded so far in the fight against the prevailing security challenges,” he said.

 

He urged the grandaunts to be dedicated, diligent and honest in the discharge of their duties by putting the development of Nigeria at their forefront.

 

The Commandant, Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, AIG Abdurrahman Ahmad commended the president, government and other stakeholders for their support and interventions to the academy, which according to him, enabled the institution executed some meaningful projects.

 

He said the 205; grandaunts, after four years of rigorous training have been professionally equipped to meet challenges as they go to the field.

 

He, however enumerated, inadequate power supply, academic and non academic staff, delay in payment of stipends to cadets, buildings, inadequate budgetary allocation, desertification amongst numerous challenges facing the institution.

 

“It is against this backdrop that I’m appealing for increase budgetary allocation, both Capital and Recurrent budget as it will go a long way in addressing the Academy Challenges,” he appealed.

 

Awards were presented the best graduating students at the event.
