The troops of 2 Brigade Nigerian Army located in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State have been charged by the General Officer Commanding 6 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Olufemi Oluyede, to maintain high level of physical fitness as prerequisite for effective discharge of responsibilities.
Major General Oluyede, gave the charge at the end of the 5-day 2023 training year exercise of Corporal and below competition.
The training exercises included point to point map reading exercise, weapon handling and firing competition, half marathon, cross country race, combat swimming and platoon drill competitions.
General Oluyede, who was represented by Brigadier General Aminu Idris, noted that the training competition which aligns with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya is designed to engender healthy competition and comradeship amongst the troops.
According to a statement by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 6 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Iweha Ikedichit the Commanding Officer, urged the troops to be good ambassadors of the army at large and their units in particular.
The Division Training Officer, Brigadier General MI Lawan, stated that troops were drilled through day time point to point map reading exercise, weapon handling and firing competition, half marathon cross country race, combat swimming and platoon drill competitions.
He therefore expressed satisfaction with the performance of troops even while urging them to put in all efforts in any assigned task.
2 Brigade Nigerian Army emerged champions of the 6 Division Nigerian Army for the 2023 training year after putting up impressive performance at the 5-day training event. At the end of the competition, 16 Brigade emerged runners up while the 6 Division Garrison and 63 Brigade, held down the third and fourth positions respectively.
