Nigerian Army Offers Free Medical Treatment to 4000 patients in Sokoto

The 8 Division Headquarters Nigerian Army, Sokoto has offered free medical treatment to 4000 patients across two local government areas in the State.

The outreach was being conducted in two local governments of Bodinga in Sifawa the home town of Chief of Army Staff, Major General Faruk Yahaya, and Dange Shuni local government area.

Flagging off the exercise in Sifawa town, Bodinga LGA, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Major General Uwem Bassey, said the exercise was part of the activities lined up to mark the 2022 Nigerian Army Day celebration in Sokoto State.

General Bassey who was represented by the 8 Division Garrison Commander, Brigadier General Ralph Nneibefe, explained that the outreach is for two days and was meant to boost Army-Civil relations.

He added that it was only when the host communities were healthy that they could provide the Army with useful intelligence that would help them succeed in their theater operations.

“I therefore employ you to be patient and follow all the laid down rules and regulation.

“I assure you will all be attended to before the end of the 2-day exercise,” the GOC said.

He said the excercise will explain to the community that Nigerian Army has the best healthcare services delivery in the country.

General Nneibefe said the GOC had fulfilled a pledge last year for the renovation of health facility which would help to boost healthcare services delivery not only in Sifawa, but across neighboring communities.

The GOC commended the District Head of Sifawa, Alhaji Buhari Tambari for his continuous support to the Nigerian Army.

Effective healthcare services

In his remarks, the District Head of Sifawa, Alhaji Buhari Tambari, while applauding the Army for their efforts to restore peace in the country, prayed God to help them succeed in their various operations.

He thanked the Division for choosing his community for the medical outreach.

He urged the beneficiaries to cooperate with the medical team to enable them receive effective healthcare services.

Treatment

Also, the Commandant 8 Division Medical and Health Services, Colonel Nwosu Ijoamanta, said they would treat all the common sicknesses, including blood screening, eye treatment and other minor surgeries.

According to him, they were targeting over 4000 patients in the two local government areas of Dange-Shuni and Bodinga.

The treatment will also center on health talks, consultations, dental services, laboratory services, COVID-19 awareness and immunizations.

Dignatories at the event were the representatives of the Nigerian Army Wives Officers Association, NAOWA Chairperson 8 Division Chapter, Mrs Glory Bassey, Senior Officers among others.

The highlight of the event was the distribution of mosquito nets to pregnant women among the two communities.
