The Chairman, House Committee on Army, Honourable Mamuda Abdullahi says when the Nigerian Army is given all required support from the legislature, it will be able to go greater heights in solving the challenges of security in the country.

He stated this when the House of Representatives Committee on Army paid its maiden visit to Army Headquarters in Abuja.

He said the committee on Army was constituted recently and inaugurated on the 7th of November 2023 and right away swung into action by visiting their most immediate constituency, the Nigerian Army to understand and know areas of support needed for the committee to succeed.

He applauded the Nigerian Army for doing so well under Lieutenant General Lagbaja and assured Nigerians that with what he has seen so far, it is mind blowing what the Army is doing in its commitment to safeguarding Nigerians.

“We consider it expedient to come here and familiarise ourselves with the Headquarters. We heard the briefs from the Chief of Army Staff and from it we will draw an oversite to engage the Nigerian Army.”

Speaking earlier, the Chief of Army Staff, (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja appreciated the committee for its support to Army’s operations and trainings.

The Army Chief therefore assured the committee that the officers and men of the Nigerian army are determined and will continue to extend the frontier of peace and stability across the country, by addressing security challenges in all geopolitical zones of the country.

He expressed the Nigerian Army’s readiness, willingness and ability to work in partnership with organisations like the National assembly, leaning on the avenues of the House Committee on Army in discharging its constitutional responsibilities.

“In discharging these responsibilities, the Army is confronted with some challenges which we know through your efforts will be addressed. Our country currently is confronted with myriads of security challenges which we are grappling with, and with the support of the National assembly we will Surmount.

“We recognise the fact that you speak for your constituencies and we appreciate the feedback we get from you being the representatives of the people. Based on these feedbacks, we have in no small measure refined our operations and are able to meet expectations of the larger citizenry of the country,” stated COAS.
