Nigerian Government, Organised Labour Reconvenes Over Impending Strike

The meeting between the Nigerian government and organized labour has resumed at 5.45 p.m. local time on Monday, October 2nd,2023, in the State House, to make a final decision on the proposed indefinite strike.

On the Government team are the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, the National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, the Finance Minister, Wale Edun, the Minister of Labour Simon Lalong and the Minister of State for Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, and the General Secretary, Emma Ugboaja are both present at the meeting while Acting President Tommy Okon is leading the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria

Recall that the organized labour had met with the government’s representatives on Sunday evening saying that it will not unilaterally shelve the indefinite strike scheduled for October 3rd, without recourse to its organ.

The Union also said after the four-hour meeting that it would meet with its organs on Monday to further discuss the provisional N35,000 wage approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday evening.
