The Nigerian Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to religious freedom, national unity, and the fight against violent extremism following recent comments by the United States President on religious freedom in the country.
In a statement issued by the spokesperson of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Kimiebi Ebienfa, the government emphasized that it remains resolute in tackling the scourge of violent extremism, which has been exacerbated by vested interests across West Africa and the Sahel.
“We mourn all the victims of violent extremism and salute our armed forces as they continue to fight against vicious but cowardly foes. The Federal Government of Nigeria will continue to defend all citizens, irrespective of race, creed, or religion,” he said
He underscored Nigeria’s diversity as a source of strength and national pride, likening it to the American model of inclusivity.
“Like America, Nigeria has no option but to celebrate the diversity that is our greatest strength. Nigeria is a God-fearing country where we respect faith, tolerance, diversity, and inclusion, in concurrence with the rules-based international order,” he added
Reaffirming the strong ties between both nations, the government noted that the United States remains a valued ally and partner.
“The Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Government of President Bola Tinubu, will maintain our laser focus and steadfast commitment to all partners who believe in genuine peace, stability, freedom, and democracy,” it added.
