President Muhammadu Buhari says the Nigerian government will continue to motivate the military in order to enhance their operational performance.
He made the pledge in Abuja on Tuesday night at the Regimental Dinner organized by the military to honour him as his tenure comes to an end on May 29.
The regimental dinner was organized by the Armed Forces of Nigeria to appreciate their Commander in Chief for the overwhelming support they received from him in the last eight years.
Addressing the officers and men who graced the occasion, President Buhari pledged more support for them as they continue to discharge their duty of securing the territorial integrity of the nation.
“For me, this regimental dinner organized to mark this occasion is very special because it presents me with yet another opportunity to reflect positively on the past, present and future of our Armed Forces.
“Consequently, the Armed Force of Nigeria and other security agencies must always remain resolute and face the country’s security challenges. In this vein, our administration, though winding down soon, will never relent in providing the needed support to the military to enable them to effectively carry out their constitutional responsibilities,” he pledged.
He thanked them for providing a secured atmosphere for the smooth conduct of the 2023 general election.
“Please permit me to use this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to the officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria for their unwavering loyalty, hard work, dedication and selfless service to our beloved nation.
“I am fully aware of all your commitments and sacrifices in tackling the myriads security challenges and your contributions to the conduct of successful elections in our countries.
“However, until the issue of insecurity is surmounted, much more is still desired from the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” the President added.
The Nigerian leader, who inaugurated a brand new Armed Forces Officers Mess, which served as venue for Tuesday’s event, prayed for the repose of the souls of officers and men of the Armed Forces, who lost their lives in the course of serving the nation.
Present at the occasion were the Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, as well as the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor and Service Chiefs.
