Reps call for absorption of student returnees from Sudan

The House of Representatives has called for an action plan by the federal government to make universities in Nigeria accept students affected by the war in Sudan.

This was sequel to a motion by a member from Katsina state, Hon. Sada Soli on the “Need to Absorb Student Returnees from Sudan into Institutions Across the Country.”

The lawmaker observed that the crisis in Sudan has resulted in the repatriation of students studying in various fields of learning in Sudan.

He expressed concern that there is no end in sight to the crisis, which leaves the state of confusion on the way forward with their various educational programs.

Hon. Soli argued that there was need for swift intervention by the federal government by absorbing the students into tertiary institutions in the country in order to enable them continue with their education.

Adopting the motion, the House urged the federal government to direct all tertiary institutions in Nigeria to accept the student’s affected by the Sudan crisis to continue with the various educational programs.

It also mandated its committee on Tertiary Education and Services to ensure compliance and report back within one week for further legislative action.
