‘Nigerians Will Soon Feel Impact of New Wheat Variety’ – Institute

Executive Director of Lake Chad Research Institute, Professor Baba Gana Jugudum Kabir, has said Nigerians will soon feel the impact of the new wheat variety, while pledging support for farmers towards ensuring improved farming practices nationwide.

He made this announcement while addressing news men in Abuja at the Regional Wheat Summit 2023 organized by the West and Central Africa Collaborative Wheat Network.

Professor Kabir shared the current progress, stating that the new variety of wheat has already been set in motion.

According to him, “The new wheat variety introduced is already in motion. We have the foundation seeds, and these seeds have been planted to produce certified seeds.”

He expressed optimism about the potential of this new wheat variety, stating, “We are poised to cultivate 123,000 hectares across the country this season. Within the 2023/24 growing season, we will witness the impact.”
