The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has stepped up its campaign against narcotics trafficking, intercepting two major drug consignments along the Zaria–Kano highway.
The operation marks another decisive effort by the agency to disrupt criminal networks and curb the flow of illicit substances across northern Nigeria.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sadiq Maigatari, the agency confirmed the arrests of two suspects in separate operations this month.
On August 6, operatives attached to the Kiru Area Command arrested 27-year-old Umar Adamu Umar of Fagge LGA, Kano State, with 9 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa (Colorado) neatly packed in 19 parcels.
According to the NDLEA, the consignment, transported from Lagos to Kano, is valued at over ₦10 million.

Umar, who had been on the agency’s watchlist, confessed to his involvement in the illicit trade.
“The seizure not only cuts off significant revenue for traffickers but also disrupts their supply chain while protecting communities from the dangers of drug abuse,” the statement noted.
In another operation on August 23, operatives arrested 29-year-old Adamu Yusuf at Kwanar Dangora along the same highway.
He was found with 7,000 capsules of Tramadol weighing 4.1 kilograms, concealed inside a 20-litre oil jerrycan.

Commander of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, ACGN A.I. Ahmad, commended the officers for their vigilance, describing the operations as proof of the command’s intelligence-driven approach to tackling drug trafficking.
He also praised the NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), for his sustained support to field operations.
“The Kano Command remains committed to intensifying patrols and intelligence operations to keep illicit substances off our streets,” Ahmad stated.
The agency further appealed to the public to continue supporting its efforts in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
