In a strategic move to improve the quality and accuracy of aviation reporting, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has organized a specialized training session for journalists in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
The training, which brought together media professionals from both print and broadcast outlets, focused on equipping participants with a deeper understanding of aviation terminology, safety regulations, and industry operations. The goal, according to the NCAA, is to foster responsible and informed journalism that supports the development of the civil aviation sector.
In her response, the workshop facilitator, Choima Ubibi expressed her confidence in the training, saying that the participants have portrayed a high degree of maturity.
“One of the main objectives of this workshop is to equip aviation correspondents with aviation terminology, guide them on how to report an aircraft incident or accident and help them understand the structure, mandate, and functions of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.
“Additionally, to assist the Authority in educating passengers about their rights, including where to submit complaints and the appropriate channel to forward these complaints to the NCAA.”
While discussing the level of participation among journalists, the workshop coordinator, Mr Chris Agabi, expressed the NCAA’s commitment to equipping journalists with the necessary support and knowledge to ensure that the Authority’s activities are reported accurately and without bias.
Mr. Agabi further commends the efforts of the Authority’s Director General, Captain Chris Najomo, and the Director of the Consumer Protection and Public Relations Department, Mr. Michael Achimugu, in ensuring that the workshop runs smoothly.
Similarly, One of the Participants, Mr. Ejike Ejike of the Leadership News Paper, who spoke on behalf of the Aviation Correspondents, expressed their gratitude for providing such an opportunity that expose their knowledge of aviation terminologies to report the activities of the Authority accurately without creating panic to the public.
The workshop is the second edition of its kind, organized by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority for Aviation Correspondents in the nation’s capital.
