North Korea strengthens ties with Nigeria’s governing party

The Ambassador of the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, DPRK, His Excellency Jon Tong Chol has met with the National Chairman of Nigeria’s governing party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governor Mai Mala Buni to strengthen Bilateral ties.

During the courtesy visit at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, Governor Buni who was represented by the APC National Secretary, Senator John Akpanudoudehe said that the APC was the largest political party in Africa because it has over 40 million registered members.

“The APC is the ruling party in Nigeria and is the largest political party in Africa going by figures of its just concluded membership registration. We stand at over 40, million registered members.

“The bilateral relationship between Nigeria and DPRK goes as far back as 1976, and in recent times, our two countries have collaborated in the area of education and technological development. Our two political parties  and our two countries can do a lot more together that would mutually benefit, our people, our political parties and indeed our entire country Nigeria.


And of note, there is something you have said, we draw strength by what  you said concerning challenges where
people with different opinions who want to impose their opinions on our own freedom and independence. So we draw strength that, so we appreciate,”
Senator Akpanudoedehe said.

The Democratic Peoples Republic of Korean Amabassador, Jon Tong Chol said the ruling Workers party of Korea appreciates the vitality of the APC which he said would form a basis for strengthening ties between both parties.

“I have followed closely the recent membership registration excercise of the party and it turned out to be a great success. The increase in the membership shows the popularity of the party and also the just policies of the APC government. I hope that the party achieves greater success in taking the Nigerian people to the Next Level.

“The Workers’ Party of Korea have put forth the policy of independence and led our people to victory. The policy of independence is something we share in common.

“The policy of the ruling party, the APC has always remained central and its proving its vitality in recent times. And this has become the foundation for developing bilateral ties between the two parties.
We believe that exchange and cooperation between the two countries through cooperation can avail us more. Engagement and exchange are very important in developing bilateral ties.

“All the parties have their challenges especially when you pursue policies of independence especially some parties abroad in domestic, try to interfere with party policies. We are facing similar challenges. Right now, we are under sanctions by outside forces. But our people and members of the party believe we will emerge victorious as long as we pursue the policy of independence.

He said it was important that the party collaborate to face its challenges together and expressed willingness to work with APC in future.
