NPFL: Akwa United, Heartland Share Points In Uyo
Defending Champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), Akwa United, squandered some goal scoring chances as a frustrated Manager, Kennedy Boboye handed in his resignation after a 0-0 draw with struggling Heartland Owerri in at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The now former Manager had in previous post match interviews, lamented their inability to make opportunities count on Sunday. Heartland goalkeeper, Femi Thomas, put in a brilliant performance to keep his side in the game.
Thomas was preferred to Paul Godwin in the MatchDay squad, as Heartland were hopeful of winning its first game in five attempts, amidst challenges faced by the team in the past couple of weeks.
Thomas made six saves including two penalties, earning Heartland a famous draw away to Akwa United.
The result saw Akwa United drop to eight place on the table, eight points adrift of leader Rivers United, while Heartland kept their place (19th) in the relegation zone, going into the midweek games.
