NPFL: Rivers United Beat Niger Tornadoes In 5-Goal Thriller

Rivers United defeated Niger Tornadoes 3-2 in a thrilling Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) contest to ease its relegation fears, on Sunday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Captain Nyima Nwagua led the fine for Rivers United, with Sadiq Abubakar Adamu and Andy Okpe supporting on the wings. Forward Ikechukwu Nwani featured in attack for Niger Tornadoes while Akintunde Azeez and Sadiq Razak were on the flanks.

The home team opened the scoring through Captain Nwagua in the 16th minute after an assist by Emmanuel Ampiah. Then 5 minutes later, Ekerette Udom doubled the advantage for Rivers United.

Niger Tornadoes reduced the deficit in the 61st minute through Clinton Jeptha, before Rivers United regained its two-goal lead through Sadiq Abubakar Adamu two minutes later. 3-1!!

In the 78th minute, Tornadoes’ Bashir Usman ensure a nervy end to the game by scoring a penalty. However, Rivers United defended well to see out a 3-2 victory.

The victory ended a run of four games without a win for the former Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions.

Rivers United moved to ninth position on the NPFL table following the win, while Niger Tornadoes remain in 12th position.

After struggling in the past few games, Rivers United finally bounced back to winning ways after a result against Niger Tornadoes.

Rivers United will face Niger Tornadoes again in the President Federation Cup round 32 clash at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin on Wednesday, 22nd May at 1 pm (WAT).
