NPFL: Rivers United Claims 2-1 Victory Against Niger Tornadoes

Rivers United FC moved to the top of Group B on the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) table after claiming a 2-1 victory against Niger Tornadoes, at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The hosts took the lead in the 6th minute after a corner kick from Chiamaka Madu was headed into the net by Enyinnaya Kazie.

Niger Tornadoes were then awarded a penalty after David Okoromi was fouled inside the box. Waheed Adebayo stepped up for the spot kick and fired the ball past goalkeeper Seidu Mutawakilu to make the scores 1-1.

Two minutes later, Rivers United went ahead after a brilliant free-kick by defender Ebube Duru, beating the goalkeeper in spectacular fashion.

Both sides couldn’t produce a goal in the second half as the match finished 2-1 in favour of Rivers United, who handed Niger Tornadoes its first loss of the season.

Rivers United will be away to Dakkada in their next game in the NPFL, while Niger Tornadoes will host Rangers International.
