The Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF), in collaboration with NBA Africa, have organised capacity-building training for teachers to enhance grassroots basketball development.
The training, tagged ”Jr NBA Coaches Academy, was held at the Indoor Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, to equip teachers with modern basketball instructional skills.
No fewer than 100 teachers took part, including 70 from primary schools, 30 from secondary schools, and 20 sports officials from NSSF and relevant educational bodies.
The trained teachers are expected to integrate basketball into physical education classes, organise school assemblies, and create engaging environments that encourage sustained sports learning and participation.
NSSF President, Olabisi Joseph, described the initiative as a milestone in basketball promotion at the grassroots and a foundation for building future basketball talent in Nigeria.

“This event signifies a major step in promoting basketball development in Nigerian schools.
“By equipping our teachers with vital skills and knowledge, we anticipate a lasting impact on grassroots basketball growth across the country,” Joseph stated.
She commended NBA Africa for its collaboration and support, emphasising that the initiative would nurture young athletes and instil a lifelong passion for basketball in pupils.
Joseph added that the programme would further strengthen basketball education and development in schools nationwide, creating a pipeline of talented players for Nigeria’s basketball future.
