Bayelsa Queens defeated Nasarawa Amazons 2-1 to become the 2021/2022 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) champions, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, Edo State.

The Bayelsa Queens beat defending champions Rivers Angels 2-1 in the first game, thumped Naija Ratels 4-0 in match day two, beat Edo Queens 2-0, before defeating Delta Queens by a lone goal in match day 4.

League top scorer Gift Monday, opened scoring for the Bayelsa Queens in the first minute. However, Amoo Basirat equalised for the Nasarawa Amazons in the 18th minute through a well taken free-kick. Bayelsa then regained the lead after a headed goal by Monday in the 23rd minute, as the game finished 2-1 in favour of Bayelsa Queens.

Speaking at the end of the competition, chairperson of the NWFL, Aisha Falode, commended stakeholders for supporting the league in 2022, especially “Tulcan Energy Resources, Peculiar Ultimate Concerns and Edo State government.”

“We cannot forget all the stakeholders that made it possible. The NWFL is fast becoming a huge brand and I am sure it can only get better,” said Falode, who described the season as successful.
