The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC in Ebonyi State Southeast Nigeria has embarked on another free Healthcare to the rural dwellers in the State.
The NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Shauibu Ibrahim,, said the program was driven by the NYSC determination to deepen the impact of healthcare services.
He said the management launched NYSC- Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers in 2014 to improve the lives of Nigerians in various rural communities.
“It is a avenue for contribution towards promoting the well-being of indigent persons in the grassroots by granting them access to free and quality healthcare”
“The program is largely implemented through medical outreaches in communities across the Country. During which Corps medical volunteers carry out diagnosis; treatment including minor medical procedures and other medical referrals of patients”
“Drugs, eye glasses and other medical consumables are also giving to the patients free of charge, ” Shauib explained.
Consequently, the Director-General stated that the Scheme has donated over 300 wheelchairs with the support of the partners through this program.
Brigadier General Shauibu further stated that the program also run campaign against HIV/AIDS, Malaria control, Guinea Worm Eradication, the immunization against measles, Poliomyelitis among others.
He said NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers has helped to prevent and curb a lot of diseases among rural dwellers in Nigeria.
He thanked Federal and State Ministries of health, United Nations International Children’s Fund UNICEF World Health Organisation, and other Non Governmental Organisations who have contributed to ensure the success of the Scheme.
The Traditional Ruler of the Orizor Autonomous Community, Eze Gabriel Nwite on behalf of Community, thanked the Nigeria Government and NYSC precisely for coming to their aid.
Nwite also thanked the Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi for giving NYSC enabling environment to operate.
The Traditional Ruler also benefited from the healthcare services by NYSC.
It would be recalled that NYSC had earlier flagged off this program on 24th June, 2021 Nationwide.
