The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that Corps Member Ushie Rita Uguamaye, with State Code number LA/24B/8325, was denied her Certificate of National Service (CNS) for criticising the government.
In a statement signed by the Acting Director, Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the NYSC described the claims as “entirely unfounded and false in their entirety.”
According to the statement, Uguamaye is among 131 corps members whose certificates were withheld for “valid disciplinary reasons.” The NYSC explained that her service year was extended by two months for failing to attend the April 2025 biometrics clearance, in line with the provisions of the NYSC Bye-Laws.
“This extension is a standard procedure and not unique to her case, and the principle of equal treatment was applied,” the statement read.
The management urged the public to understand that extending service for non-compliance is a longstanding tradition in the scheme and should not be politicized.
The NYSC reaffirmed its commitment to carrying out its mandate in accordance with the constitution, adding, ‘Nigeria is ours; Nigeria we serve.’
