The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has called on Corps Members and staff to recommit themselves to national service, unity, and professionalism as Nigeria enters the year 2026.

In his New Year message to the Scheme, Nafiu commended Corps Members and staff for their patriotism, dedication, and resilience throughout 2025, noting that their collective efforts contributed significantly to the successes recorded by the NYSC.

He urged all personnel to take concrete actions in the new year by actively supporting Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), promoting national unity and rebirth, and serving as visible symbols of progress, particularly in the face of the country’s current challenges.

According to him, sustained commitment and collective responsibility are essential to making a tangible difference for the nation.

The Director-General reaffirmed management’s commitment to strengthening national unity through improved service delivery and expanded empowerment opportunities for Corps Members.

He highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme as a key platform for equipping young Nigerians with practical skills for self-reliance and national development.

Nafiu challenged both Corps Members and staff to embrace their responsibilities in 2026 with renewed dedication and professionalism, urging them to seize every opportunity to positively impact their host communities and the nation at large.

Expressing optimism about the year ahead, the NYSC boss said, “Let’s build on our successes and make 2026 a rewarding year for the NYSC Scheme and Nigeria.”

He reminded Corps Members and staff of the enduring spirit of service that defines the Scheme, stressing that national development requires unity, commitment, and shared responsibility.

Nigeria is ours; Nigeria we serve,” he stated, while wishing all Corps Members and staff a happy and prosperous New Year.
