The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC ) members have been advised to adhere strictly to all the safety protocols of COVID-19 and also maintain good personal hygiene.
The Director-General of the scheme, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim stated this while addressing Corps Members currently undergoing orientation courses at NYSC orientation camp in Magaji Dan Yamusa Keffi, Nasarawa State North Central Nigeria.
According to a statement by the Director, Press and Public Relations of the NYSC, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, General Ibrahim disclosed that the prevalence of new variants of the deadly pandemic has necessitated the need for more vigilance and continuous usage of nose masks, washing of hands, social distancing, application of sanitizer among others.
Ibrahim revealed that COVID-19 vaccines would soon be made available to Corps members in orientation camps while he urged them to present themselves for vaccination.
“Don’t endanger yourselves, take advantage of the vaccine. Get yourself vaccinated to protect yourself and others.
“Obey the pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical safety protocols of COVID-19,” he added.
He advised them to avoid misconduct during the service year and abide by NYSC Bye-Laws, adding that every infraction would attract disciplinary action.
The Director-General also warned that no Corps employer has the right to grant them permission to travel, but when it becomes necessary to travel, they must obtain approval from the NYSC.
lbrahim cautioned the Corps members against embarking on night journeys which can expose them to dangers on the highways.
He specifically warned the female Corps members to live responsibly and avoid being wayward.
“Let the spirit of NYSC live in you. Stay safe and serve as responsible leaders in your respective environments. You must also obey the rules and regulations in your Place of Primary Assignments,” the DG said.
