Ondo at 50: President Tinubu Pledges Support

President Bola Tinubu has pledged continued support for Ondo State as it celebrates 50 years of creation, describing the milestone as a turning point for greater development and national relevance.

Speaking at the Golden Jubilee ceremony held at the Akure Stadium, in Ondo state, President Tinubu said his administration would work to position Ondo State as a model for national progress, with strong focus on innovation, education, agriculture and technology.

The President was represented at the event by Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Honourable Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

“As we celebrate this golden jubilee, let us set our sights on a bold and ambitious vision for Ondo State.

“Let us work together to make this state a model for national progress, a centre of innovation and education, a hub of agricultural and technological excellence, and a place where every citizen can achieve their full potential,”  hesaid.

The.President described the 50-year milestone as both a celebration and a responsibility, noting that, “Fifty years is a significant milestone, but it is also a call to action. Let us deepen unity, strengthen democracy, and expand opportunities for all citizens.”

Tinubu praised the contributions of the people of Ondo State to Nigeria’s growth.

Economic Potentials

Highlighting the state’s economic potential, the President said Ondo State’s fertile land, long coastline, mineral resources and youthful population provide strong opportunities in agriculture, education, technology, tourism and the blue economy.

“The Federal Government under the Renewed Hope Agenda remains committed to supporting Ondo State in harnessing these opportunities, improving infrastructure, strengthening security, and empowering communities, ensuring that every citizen benefits from growth and development,” he said.

Addressing young people in the state, The Nigerian leader said, “You are the architects of the next fifty years. Your energy, innovation, education, and commitment to service are vital to sustaining the state’s development and strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.

“Embrace these values, and let your creativity, determination, and discipline drive Ondo State to new heights of prosperity and excellence,” he added.

The President also highlighted Ondo State’s cultural heritage, describing it as a source of pride and unity.

“Ondo State is a land rich in culture, heritage, and identity.These cultural treasures are not only a source of pride but also a foundation upon which we can build sustainable development, unity, and a stronger sense of community,” the Nigerian leader added.

In his remarks, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa described the Golden Jubilee as a moment of reflection and renewed purpose.

“My dear people, 50 years ago, Ondo State was an idea and a vision rooted in hope. Today, it is a living, breathing reality,” he said.

He announced an award night to honour individuals who played key roles in the state’s history and development, urging citizens to remain united.

“Let us, therefore, celebrate today with gratitude, reflect with humility, and move forward with renewed resolve, united in purpose, confident in destiny and committed to service.

“Once again, I wish you a Happy Golden Jubilee, Ondo State,” the Govermor added.
