One of the opposition parties in Nigeria, the Action Democratic Party, ADP, has called on Nigerians, especially the people of Ondo state, not to vote for any political party that is in crisis because it can not deliver good governance.

The National Chairman of the ADP Mr. Yabagi Sani made the call while presenting the certificate of return to the party’s guber candidate Mr Emmanuel Ayodeji Akinnode on Wednesday at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Mr Sani said that “only ADP and few others conducted credible primary election devoid of rancour.

He said that “the tumultuous primaries of other parties serve as a cautionary tale for us. While they engage in internal conflicts, we remain dedicated to serving the interests of the people of Ondo state.”

The National Chairman of the party further explained that the presentation of the certificate of return to the governorship candidate was based on the “successful primary election held on April 25 at the Watts Garden Hotel in Akure, Ondo State where Akinnodi was declared the winner.”

He added that the primary “election process was peaceful, and our statutory delegates gave him their unanimous support as our candidate.”

The National Chairman reiterated the transparency, fairness, and harmony of the primary election saying that the party had not received any complaint since the results were announced, “which speaks to ADP’s unity and determination to reach our objectives” he said.

The National Chairman described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and the main opposition party in Nigeria the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), as political parties plagued by internal discord and cannot govern effectively or implement policies that benefit the populace.

He encouraged the people of Ondo State to consider their options carefully saying that a wrong choice could result in continued poor governance.

We have repeatedly missed opportunities for positive change, and just when it seems we are making progress, we fall back into greater difficulties. Ondo State has the chance to lead by example and initiate genuine, meaningful change” Sani said.

He urged the people of Ondo State to be wary of parties embroiled in internal conflicts who fail to keep their promises and cling to power without a commitment to service and public welfare.

He noted that “it’s time to move past the political parties that have led us to poverty, frustration, and despair.”

“I call on Ondo State to lead the way in Nigeria’s transformation by electing a dedicated, thoughtful, and charismatic leader. The time for change is now, and the ADP is fully committed to this journey. We will not waver until we reach our goal” he said.

Competency and good governance

In his response, the ADP candidate for the 2024 Off-cycle Ondo State Governorship race, Mr Ayodeji Emmanuel Akinnodi, commended the leadership of the ADP. He said that the party has shown that it believes in the youth and competency.

He, however, promised that within two years of his administration if elected the lack of electricity in Ondo state would be a thing of the past.

Mr Akinnodi also assured the people of providing good health care services, good education and good governance if elected.

The ADP governorship candidate also promised to tackle unemployment by creating jobs for the youths of the state.
