The San Francisco-based company OpenAI announced that starting from Monday, users can access its ChatGPT generative AI chatbot without the need to sign up. This move aims to democratize access to AI, making it more accessible to those curious about its capabilities.

ChatGPT, credited with igniting the GenAI trend in late 2022, simulates human conversation and performs various tasks, including summarizing lengthy texts, crafting poems, and brainstorming ideas for themed parties.

OpenAI stated its intention to gradually introduce this feature, emphasizing inclusivity in AI exploration. Despite experiencing a slowdown in growth since its peak in May 2023, where it garnered 1.8 billion web visits, according to Similar web, ChatGPT remains highly popular.

To ensure responsible usage, OpenAI implemented additional content safeguards for users accessing ChatGPT without registration, extending to a broader spectrum of categories, although specific categories were not disclosed.

In addition to the free version of ChatGPT, which operates offline, OpenAI offers paid versions tailored for individuals, teams, and enterprises.

The company clarified that while it may leverage user-provided content to enhance its large-language models, users have the option to opt out of this feature.

This development follows Elon Musk’s recent lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, alleging a deviation from the startup’s original mission of developing AI for the betterment of humanity, rather than solely for profit.
