Italian club Napoli put on foot in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals after beating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0, courtesy of goals from in-form Super Eagles of Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen and Giovanni Di Lorenzo, at the Deutsche Bank Park Stadium in Frankfurt, Germany.
Eintracht started with talisman Randal Kolo Muani in attack with Jesper Lindstom and Mario Gotze supporting. For the visitors, it was a familiar front-three of Osimhen, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Hirving Lozano.
The hosts started brightly against Napoli and had chances to take the lead, but could not convert their chances. Eintracht goalkeeper Kevin Trapp then saved a penalty from Napoli’s Kvaratskhelia in the 36th minute, before Osimhen opened the scoring for the visitors four minutes later.
In the second half, the match got tougher for the Germans as Muani was sent off in the 58th minute after a dangerous challenge on Napoli midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa.
Napoli then extended its lead in the 65th minute after a brilliant piece of skill by Kvaratskhelia. After Anguissa’s pass found the Georgian, he did well to trap the ball and his lovely back-heel pass fell to Napoli captain Di Lorenzo, who calmly placed the ball into the net beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.
The match was all but over for Eintracht, who had no answers against a brilliant Napoli side that have been dominating the Italian Serie A all season.
Napoli’s fantastic season continues with talisman Osimhen firing on all cylinders, as he seeks to bring the glory days back to the Serie A leaders.
