Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Osogbo, the state capital will on Friday, January 27 deliver judgement on the petition of former governor Adegboyega Oyetola brought against the result of the July 16, 2022 that produced the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The announcement was contained in a notice signed by the Tribunal secretary, David Umar and made available to the public at the State High Court Osogbo on Tuesday.

Voice of Nigeria reports that both parties involved in the suit also confirmed that the date was similarly communicated to them on Tuesday.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, had filed a petition at the tribunal challenging the declaration of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC as the winner of the July 16 election.

According to INEC, Adeleke secured 403,371 votes to defeat Oyetola, who polled 375,027.

Oyetola anchors his case on alleged election rigging via over-voting, infractions in some polling units, and the authenticity of the West African Examination Council, WAEC, certificate presented by Adeleke among other grounds.

The three-man panel headed by Justice Tersea Kume had on Friday January 13 adjourned indefinitely for judgement after both parties adopted their final written addresses.

The 180 days stipulated in the Electoral Act within which the petition is expected to conclude its assignment lapses on January 31, 2023.
