The Government of Osun State, Southwest Nigeria, said it has taken delivery of its share of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines from the Federal Government.
Funke Egbemode, the state Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, disclosed this on Tuesday, following receipt of the vaccines at Akure Airport.
Egbemode said the state government received the vaccines at about 7:11 pm on Tuesday, adding that the government was prepared to both preserve and administer them.
She explained that the state had trained about 300 health workers to administer the vaccines and installed storage facilities (cold chain) across its 332 wards.
She assured residents that the vaccination process would soon commence in line with the guidelines laid down by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).
Concerning conspiracy theories about the vaccine, the Commissioner advised citizens to shun all misinformation, stressing that the vaccines had been scientifically tested and certified fit for human use by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
She further advised citizens not to let down their guard but continue to observe all Covid-19 prevention protocols even after taking the vaccine.
The Medical Team that received the vaccines on behalf of the Osun government included: Commissioner for Health, Dr Rafiu Isamotu; Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Dr Siji Olamiju and the Chairman, Osun Primary Health Care Development Board, Mr Leke Ogunsola.
