The Oyo State Government has put plans in place to upgrade some of its Primary Health Centers (PHCs), to 24-hour service centers, adding that manpower gaps would be addressed soon.

A statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, confirms this as part of the resolutions reached during a two-day retreat organised for health practitioners and stakeholders in the state.
During the retreat, the Oyo State Ministry of Health mapped out strategies to address various challenges affecting the health sector, mobilise resources, coordinate the activities of its partners and arrive at a plan that would align with the the present administration’s Road Map for Health Care Development in the state.
The statement quotes the Commissioner for Health, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, saying that the retreat would ensure stakeholders in the health sector chart a way forward to improve the sector.
She explained that the Governor Makinde-led administration had made significant strides in improving the health care system and promoting the people’s health in the state.
Earlier, the Director of Planning Research and Statistics in the Ministry, Dr Gbolahan Abbas, stated that, “The presence and collaboration of health families at the retreat was to promote health services in the state.
“All the stakeholders in the health sector resolved to improve their working relationship for effective service delivery towards the realisation of the mandate of Omituntun 2.0 of the present administration in the state, on health.”
Also, the health family resolved to use innovative means to bridge the manpower gap, especially at PHCs, by engaging qualified health personnel into some facilities, using capitation and other sources.
The statement says the Oyo State Government had vowed that as it made progress in reducing the manpower gaps, more PHCs would be upgraded into 24-hour service centers.
The retreat also agreed to look into upgrading some Primary Health Centers to Secondary Health Care Centers.
