Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Oyo State branch of the Accord Party has unveiled Professor Abiodun Ayandele as the running mate of Chief Adebayo Adelabu popularly called Penkelemesi.

The party also announced Senator Ayoade Adeseun as the Chairman of the State Campaign Council and Chief Adegboyega Adegoke as the Director General of the 2023 election campaign.

Also at the event, the party launched the harmonised Accord Leaders Council as well as a Joint Campaign Council for the 2023 elections.

The three-in-one event, which held at the Jericho area of Ibadan, the state capital, was attended by all the 3 Senatorial, 14 House of Representatives and 32 House of Assembly candidates for the 2023 general elections, party chieftains and supporters from across the state.

Justifying the choice of the Ogbomosho-born university lecturer as the running mate of the governorship candidate, Senator Adeseun said the decision to consider a female as a deputy governorship candidate was the initiative of the party flagbearer because of their peculiarity.

He said the choice was made after consideration of more than ten eminently qualified females but that the antecedents of the parents of Ayandele as core progressives during their days was a huge factor, adding, however, that all those considered also agreed to the choice reached.

Adeseun noted that the leaders also considered the political strength of the regions and zone which, according to him, makes Ogbomoso the second largest after Ibadan, to search for the candidate, describing Ayandele as a first class brain who has what it takes to complement the party’s governorship candidate.

He appealed to members of the party to work together across all elective positions saying the party is at an advantaged position than other parties in the state.

Coordinated Purpose
In his remarks, the governorship flagbearer, Adebayo Adelabu, said the party decided on a Joint Campaign Council for all party candidates in the forthcoming election so as to achieve a coordinated purpose.

Adelabu stated that although the Joint Campaign Council had over 10,000 members, the state campaign committee had over 3,500 members who would still integrate other members from the grassroots.

He announced four deputy chairmen to support the Senator Adeseun team in the discharge of the task ahead, charging all party members to work together in the interest of the party, in the bid to salvage the state from the misrule of the ruling PDP-led government.
