The Chairman of the Forum of State Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Tony Eziegbemi, says no litigation or political distraction will stop the party’s forthcoming National Convention, scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Eziegbemi stated this at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja during a strategic meeting with Chairmen of the 36 state chapters of the party.

The meeting, he explained, “was convened to address recent developments, including a court case filed by some members allegedly aimed at stopping the planned convention.”

He clarified that no member of the National Working Committee (NWC) was involved in the legal action, describing it as a deliberate ploy to destabilise the party and obstruct its preparations for the convention.

“Two days ago, the Secretary of the Forum drew our attention to the fact that a former interim chairman and one of our colleagues had instituted a legal action against the party. Even though the National Executive Committee was not meeting, the State Chairmen were called to Abuja to deliberate on this matter,” Eziegbemi said.

According to him, 28 State Chairmen attended the Abuja meeting, where the forum resolved to suspend the two members involved in the suit.

He emphasised that the forum had unanimously distanced and disassociated itself from the court action, describing it as “not the right approach” to resolving internal party issues.

The Forum, he said, has pledged total support to the National Working Committee led by Ambassador Umar Damagum to ensure a smooth, credible, and well-organized convention in Ibadan.

“We, the state chairmen, stand solidly behind the NWC. We will provide every necessary support to ensure that the forthcoming convention is one of the best in the history of the PDP. We call on the media and Nigerians to stand with us in protecting multiparty democracy in the country,” Eziegbemi added.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by the state chairmen to mobilize support across their states and counter any legal or political manoeuvres that could threaten the party’s preparations for the November convention.
