A Federal High Court in Abuja, Nigeria, has adjourned the hearing of issues arising from the conduct of the people’s Democratic Party, PDP, delegates Congress held in Akwa Ibom State, Southern Nigeria to the 1st of June.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu, who stated this, directed Counsels to put together all necessary addresses for the matter to be heard and be decided upon.

It would be recalled that some members of the People’s Democratic Party, had filed an application at the Federal High Court asking the court to set aside the results of the ward congress.

The applicants, who are mainly supporters of a serving senator and governorship aspirant in the state, Bassey Albert, said there was no election to choose the ad-hoc delegates in the state, an action contrary to the Electoral Act.

The court had earlier directed parties in the case to stay action as it were before the beginning of the delegates’ election, pending the hearing and determination of the suit.

Despite the order from the High Court, directing parties in the suit challenging the party’s ad-hoc delegates election in Akwa Ibom State, the party last Sunday, conducted its primaries using the said delegates to elect its candidates for the 2023 House of Assembly and House of Representatives elections.
