The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has held its 103rd meeting in Abuja, with party leaders reaffirming their commitment to internal reconciliation, party unity, and participation in the 2027 general elections.

The PDP Factional National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, in his opening remarks welcomed members and explained the reasons for the earlier postponement of the meeting.

He said the delay allowed the leadership to thoroughly review ongoing legal and political developments affecting the party.

According to him, the leadership engaged in extensive consultations, including with the Board of Trustees (BoT), to properly assess the situation and present informed options to NEC.

Turaki assured members that efforts were ongoing to safeguard the party’s future.

“All hope is not lost. Indeed, no hope is lost. Every conceivable effort is being made to ensure that the PDP is on the ballot in all elections in 2027,” he said.

He emphasized that the PDP remains a strong political institution committed to preserving Nigeria’s multi-party democracy and reclaiming power at the centre.

BoT, Caucuses Call for Unity and Decisive Action

The Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara, expressed concern over defections and internal divisions, urging members to remain steadfast.

Wabara stressed the urgency of decisive action, adding that NEC must move forward in charting a clear path for the party.

“Time is of the essence. We must move forward and take vital decisions that will strengthen the party,” he said.

Similarly, the PDP Caucus Leader in the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi, acknowledged the decline in the party’s legislative numbers but maintained that loyal members remained committed.

He urged the party faithful to stay united and resist inducements, stressing that perseverance would ultimately restore the PDP’s fortunes.

“When the battle gets tough, only the tough keep going. We must remain strong and ready,” he said.

He emphasized the importance of due process and consultation in party decisions, rejecting unilateral actions.

“We will stand with the leadership and remain committed to the unity and progress of our great party,” he stated.

NEC Ratifies Key Decisions

Briefing journalists at the end of the meeting, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said NEC deliberated on and unanimously ratified key decisions taken by the National Working Committee (NWC) and the BoT.

“The process of reconciliation is ongoing. While progress has been made, it has not yet reached its final destination,” he said.

On reconciliation, Ememobong described the process as gradual but steady, with both sides showing signs of de-escalation.

He added that details of the negotiations were being kept confidential to avoid external interference.
