The presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar said women and youth will be given topmost priority under his administration if he wins the 2023 general election next month.

Atiku promised to ensure that they reach their potentials and contribute to national development and succeed the current crop of leaders. ‘We want our youth to be where we are, we are here to bring you up, our youths and our woman, we are bringing you up so that you can succeed us. We are not going to be there forever. We want you to succeed us. For you to succeed us, you must be a responsible citizen. You must be hard-working youths, young men and women.”

He promised that the next government under the PDP will be for the women and youth because they are in the majority, and they must be given the opportunity to lead the country.

Atiku reaffirmed his commitment to giving more powers to states and local governments under his restructuring agenda as enunciated in his policy document called my covenant with Nigerians, “I am committed to power devolution as well as resource control, restructuring and I know all the southeastern states have been yearning for it. I’ve been propagating for the restructuring of this country because we want them to have more powers and more resources to deal with their own local affairs”.

The Director General of the campaign council, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, southwest Nigeria, described Atiku Abubakar as the only candidate in next month’s election to turn Nigeria around for the benefit of all citizens, and that as a pan-Nigerian he will keep his campaign promises of securing the country, devolving more powers to states and local governments, restructuring the country, boosting education and economy.

National Chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu referring to the Ebonyi state governor who was elected on the PDP ticket but defected to the ruling APC said they will reclaim their mandate again and return the state to the PDP “Let me tell you, if you elect any governor and leaves with our mandate, we shall keep fighting until we get our mandate.

However, whatever achievement of Governor Dave Umahi, you know very well that he was a PDP governor. It is the achievement of the PDP and the foundation was laid by governors Sam Egwu and Elechi”.

Ayu said the party is proud of its governors’ achievements and wants voters to cast their votes for the umbrella sign on election day and return the PDP to power with a promise to address the griviances of the people. “We need to engage the people of the Southeast. We need to talk to you. We need to know why you are crying and we will resolve those problems and peace will return to the Southeast”.

Former governor of Ebonyi state, senator Sam Egwu asked the supporters at the campaign rally to restore the state back to the PDP because until the current governor defected to the APC, the state had always voted for PDP, making part of his remarks in Igbo language, reminded the people of development under the PDP in the state and for them to trust Atiku and Okowa with their votes for a better southeast and Nigeria.
