The People’s Democratic Party PDP, Ebonyi State Chapter, Southeast Nigeria has held it’s Stakeholders meeting, following the defection of the former State Chairman of the Party, Barr Onyekachi Nwebonyi to the All Progressive Congress APC.
The meeting which took place in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital had in attendance, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius-Anyim, the first civilian Governor of the State and Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone, Dr Sam Egwu, Senator Obinna Ogba of Ebonyi Central Zone, Senator Amah Nnachi of Ebonyi South Zone and all the five members of the House of Representatives from the State.
The Southeast Vice Chairman of the party, Chief Ali Odefa, while addressing the meeting said PDP remained focused in the State and does not believe in noisemaking.
Chief Odefa maintained that the era of intimidation has gone.
“We are not noise makers, we are focused in getting to our desired destination” he said.
The party chieftain, therefore advised his members never to allow anybody to intimidate them during their meetings.
“I want you all to be courageous and resolute, call your meetings, mobilize your people, secure your meetings, they won’t do anything. One advantage you have over other political patties is that in our party PDP, we will democratize the process of primaries in our own party. Everybody will be given equal chance to contest any primaries” Odefa added.
Unwarranted violence
Also the State PDP Caretaker Chairman, Elder Fred Udeogu, urged Governor David Umahi to have a rethink on the violence that has been unleashed on the State since his defection.
Udeogu described the spate of politically motivated killings across the state as barbaric and unacceptable.
The Caretaker Chairman therefore called on the Governor to do all he can to stop all these unwarranted violence for the interest of the state.
He pleaded with Umahi to facilitate a peaceful surrender of all the PDP party secretariats which his hirelings had attempted to vandalize.
Grassroots sensitisation
The State Youth leader of People’s Democratic Party PDP , Barrister Obinna Iteshi said the party has resolved to go into grassr
“PDP runs an open Government and does not deceive people, all am saying is that you should come and support the party to enable you elect the people of your choice come next general elections” Iteshi said.
He urged Ebonyi people and all Nigerians not to allow themselves be deceived by parties who are only after their selfish interest.
