The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended four of its national officers over alleged anti-party activities.
The decision followed an emergency meeting of the NWC held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, in Abuja, pursuant to Sections 58 and 59 of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).
Those affected by the suspension include the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; National Organising Secretary, Hon. Umar Bature; National Legal Adviser, Mr Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); and Deputy National Legal Adviser, Mr Okechukwu Osuoha.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, said the decision was part of ongoing efforts by the NWC to maintain party discipline and uphold its constitution.
According to him, “The NWC has reviewed the party’s activities, especially in the recent past, and taken some far-reaching decisions. You will recall that on August 8, 2025, the party issued a reprimand to members over anti-party activities. Since then, we have reviewed the actions of some members found to be working against the party’s interest.”
He explained that under Section 58 of the PDP Constitution, any member who engages in acts capable of bringing the party into disrepute, disobeys lawful directives, or causes disaffection among members is liable to disciplinary action.
Ologunagba further stated that the NWC considered the conduct of the affected officers and, in line with the party’s constitution, decided to suspend them for 30 days, pending further action by the National Disciplinary Committee.
He said: “The National Legal Adviser, Mr Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), and the Deputy National Legal Adviser, Mr Okechukwu Osuoha, are both suspended for 30 days and referred to the National Disciplinary Committee.
Similarly, the National Organising Secretary, Hon. Umar Bature, and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, are suspended for one month and referred to the committee for further review.”
During the suspension period, Ologunagba announced that the Deputy National Secretary, Hon. Setonji Koshoedo, will act as National Secretary, in line with Section 36(2) of the PDP Constitution.
He added that the National Director of Legal Services has been directed to oversee the Legal Department during the period of suspension.
Ologunagba emphasised that the decision underscores the PDP’s zero-tolerance policy for indiscipline and actions detrimental to its unity and stability.
“The party remains committed to internal cohesion, discipline, and adherence to its constitution as the foundation for strengthening democracy in Nigeria,” he said.
