The Cross River State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Venatius Ikem has enjoined support groups to sustain and intensify efforts in its door-to-door campaign to aggressively mobilize grassroots votes for candidates of the party come 2023 general election.
Mr. Ikem made the call when members of the PDP Liberty Support Group paid him a visit at the party’s secretariat in Calabar, the Cross River state capital, southern Nigeria.
Ikem noted that aggressive mobilization at the grassroots would guarantee a landslide victory for the party at the 2023 general elections.
“The present insecurity, untold hardship, economic woes, gradual collapse of key sectors are adding up to the growing indices for a failed sate.
“The exorbitant cost of living and the gradual transformation of Nigeria from a peaceful country to one bedeviled by rising insecurity should convince every rational prospective voter that it is high time to vote for the PDP.
“In PDP, our antecedents speak volume of our capacity, competence and noble intentions for our country.
“Our predicament in Cross River is the worst scenario. The commercial oriented destruction of our historic ecosystem and common heritage as well as apparatus of government have taken us backward in developmental index. Hence the urgent need to reclaim our beloved state from those who have nothing to offer,” said Ikem.
He, however, advised the group and other similar support groups to function within the ambit of the law and ensure that the aggressive mobilization permeates to the 3,321 polling units to achieve its aim.
Earlier, the Director-General of the PDP Liberty Group, Mr. Peter Igbe said the members were committed to enthroning a responsible government in Cross River state through intensive mobilization of the people across the state.
“We opted to pitch our tent with the PDP after a holistic appraisal of the various governorship candidates on parade across the political parties.
“We have unanimously agreed that Senator Sandy Onor is the best option in all ramifications. This informed our decision to team up with the PDP to usher in Senator Sandy Onor as the next governor of Cross River State,” said Mr. Igbe.
Also, the patron of the group, Sir Philip Adie, pledged their readiness to work assiduously for the PDP at the 2023 polls to achieve the much needed victory that would provide all Cross River citizens a breath of fresh air.
The Liberty Group has its membership drawn from the academia, business sector and enterprising youths in Cross River State.
