PDP Wins 24 Seats In Akwa Ibom State Assembly Election

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Akwa Ibom State has won 24 of the 26  House of Assembly seats in the March 18, 2023 election.

The two remaining seats won by the Young Progressives Party (YPP) were Ikono constituency and Ibiono Ibom State constituency. Mr Essien Edet scored 18, 235 votes to win in Ibiono Ibom while Mr Udo Asuquo secured 14,175 votes to win Ikono.

Out of the 24 seats, four were won by female contestants; Mrs Precious Selong secured 4,491 to win in Urueoffong/Oruko Constituency, Mrs Selina Ukpata won 18,113 votes in Ikot Abasi/Eastern Obolo, Mrs Itorobong Etim was declared winner in Uruan with 12,353 votes and Mrs Kenim Onofiok secured 10,611 to win Oron/Udung Uko.

Others elected on the platform of the PDP in the state were, Prince Ukpong Akpabio (Essien Udim), Mfon Idung (Etim Ekpo/Ika), Mr Bassey Bassey (Okobo), Sampson Idiong (Oruk Anam), Lawrence Udoide (Ini), Nsidibe Akata (Eket), Elder Udeme Otong (Abak), Effiong Johnson (Mbo) and Otobong Bob, (Nsit Ubium).

Other PDP members-elect were, Kufreabasi Edidem (Itu), Mr Uwem Imoh-Ita (Mkpat Enin), Otu Anson (Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara), Ubong Attah (Ibesikpo Asutan), Emem Udom (Ukanafun), Uwemedimo Asuquo (Uyo); Udobia Udo (Esit Eket /Ibeno), Prince Aniefiok Attah (Nsit Atai), Eric Akpan (Nsit Ibom), Uduak Uffot (Etinan) and Sunday Johnny (Onna).

Five of them re-elected for a second term are; Effiong Johnson (Mbo), Kufreabasi Edidem (Itu), Otobong Bob (Nsit Ubium), Mfon Frank Idung (Etim Ekpo/Ika) and Elder Udeme Otong (Abak).

Voice of Nigeria reports that the PDP has ruled Akwa Ibom State since 1999 and has always had the highest number of seats in the State House of Assembly.
