The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has suspended its industrial action following the intervention of the Federal Government in its dispute with the Dangote Group.
Addressing the media in Abuja on Wednesday, the President of PENGASSAN, Comrade Festus Osifo, said that the union had suspended the industrial action in faith as a response to the intervention of the Federal government.

Osifo stated that though it did not achieve its set objective completely, it decided to accept the agreements contained in the communique, “PENGASAN is suspending the strike in good faith to show that it is not about us but the general good of Nigeria and Nigerians.
“We had wanted our 800 sacked members to be reabsorbed in the Dangote Refinery where they were, but in respect to the government intervention, they will be absorbed and distributed within other sectors of the company.
“Note that what we did is not calling off the strike but a suspension. We will be monitoring the implementation of the agreement, and if we see or feel any sign that Dangote is not keeping to its side of the agreement, we will resume our action without any other notice,” Osifo stated.
Earlier on Wednesday, Voice of Nigeria reported that the Federal Government had brokered peace between PENGASSAN and the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited.
Following this development, PENGASSAN has agreed to start the process of calling off its strike, which had commenced on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
With the truce achieved, the statement said that the Dangote Refinery will start the process of taking the disengaged staff to other companies within the Dangote Group, with no loss of pay.
The communique issued after the meeting, signed by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Muhammad Dingyadi, stated, among other things, that no worker will be victimised arising from their role in the impasse between Dangote and PENGASSAN and that
PENGASSAN agreed to start the process of calling off the strike.
