The outgoing Permanent Secretary of the Department of Accounts, Mr. Clement Inyang, has urged National Assembly staff of Akwa Ibom State extraction to uphold the highest standards of accountability and excellence in public service.

The call was made during a courtesy visit by the 2024 NASS Akwa Ibomite Staff Association.

The meeting, held in the spirit of professional camaraderie and end-of-year reflection, focused on the evolving dynamics of the National Assembly’s workforce and the critical need for inter-departmental synergy.

The visit also served as a platform for deep-dive discussions on professional development.

While addressing the group, Mr. Inyang took a reflectively offered “fatherly charge” to the staff, he emphasised on the human element of governance.

“In all National Assembly matters, I urge you to show love and always put the people first,” Mr Inyang said.

He also encouraged the young professionals to maintain a strong moral compass, advising them to embrace God and do the rightful thing at all times to ensure a lasting legacy in their careers.

Representatives of the association and Mr. Inyang explored several key pillars for future cooperation:

“Capacity Building: Developing specialised training programs for NASS staff to meet modern public service demands.

• Resource Sharing: Improving the flow of data and administrative tools between the Department of Accounts and legislative offices.

• Public-Sector Accountability: Establishing a mutual support system to ensure transparency and integrity in financial and administrative matters.”

The delegation lauded Mr. Inyang’s tenure, noting that his leadership has been a catalyst for improved service delivery and smoother inter-governmental relations.

The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a commemorative plaque to the Permanent Secretary by the Coordinator Comrade Michael Kufre Akpan.
