The Labour Party (LP) has officially kicked off its campaign ahead of the November 8, 2025, governorship election in Anambra State with the inauguration of the George Moghalu/Ifeoma Okaro Campaign Council.
The event, held at Jesse Hotels & Suites in Awka, the state capital, drew a large gathering of party stakeholders, supporters, and grassroots mobilisers from all 21 local government areas.
A major highlight of the campaign launch is the announcement that LP’s national leader and former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi (Okwute ndi Igbo), will deliver the keynote address at the party’s first state rally in Onitsha on Friday, July 11, 2025.
The rally is expected to galvanize support ahead of what promises to be a fiercely contested election.
“Our national leader, Mr. Peter Obi, will address the people live in Onitsha. His presence reinforces the seriousness of our mission and the unity of purpose within the Labour Party,” said Chief George Moghalu, the LP governorship candidate.
While inaugurating the campaign council, Moghalu expressed deep gratitude to God for a peaceful gathering and the unwavering support of the party faithful.
“Thanks for agreeing to work with us—remember, to whom much is given, much is expected,” he told the council members. “Elections are not won in state capitals. They are won at the polling units. That is where we must focus our energy.”
Moghalu also used the opportunity to debunk growing rumours of a merger between the Labour Party and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing such claims as politically motivated and misleading.
“Let me make this clear: there is no coalition between LP and ADC for this election. The talks around ADC relate to the 2027 general elections. Our leader, Peter Obi, remains firmly in the Labour Party and will campaign with us across the state,” he said.
The LP flag bearer did not hold back in criticizing the incumbent administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, describing it as “lame and uninspiring” with“poor performance across vital sectors like security, agriculture, health, and education.”
“We are dealing with a government that has failed to meet the expectations of the people. Even the infrastructure being put in place is substandard,” Moghalu said.

Mrs. Ifeoma Okaro, the deputy governorship candidate, urged unity and hard work among council members. “Let us stay focused and committed. Together, we will secure victory on November 8,” she stated.
Also addressing the gathering, LP State Chairman Comrade Ugochukwu Emeh lauded Moghalu’s preparedness. “Our candidate is physically and financially ready for this contest. There is no second place,” he affirmed.
National Deputy Chairman of the Labour Party, Mr. Clement Ojukwu, emphasised the importance of grassroots mobilisation. “Be an ambassador of LP. Win your ward—once we win our wards, we win the election,” he charged.
The Director General of the campaign council, Architect Okey Chukwuogo, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to deliver victory.
“This is not just a campaign; it’s a movement for real change. Our candidate is credible, experienced, and ready to lead. Together, we will make history in Anambra,” Chukwuogo said.
