Nigeria’s Ministry of Petroleum Resources has formally opened two Condolence Registers in Abuja alongside other federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in honour of the late former President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.
Former President Buhari passed away on Sunday, 13 July 2025, at the age of 82 in a London hospital. He was laid to rest in his hometown, Daura, in Katsina State on Tuesday, 15 July 2025, in accordance with Islamic rites.

According to a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, the Condolence Registers—opened on Wednesday, 16 July 2025—are located at the basement and ground floor of the Ministry’s wing at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Towers, Central Business District, Abuja.

Leading the solemn exercise were the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, PhD; the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, PhD; and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Dr Emeka Vitalis Obi, mni, who each took turns to sign the Condolence Register in tribute to the departed leader.

They were joined by directors of departments, heads of units, staff of the Ministry, stakeholders in the oil and gas industry, and visiting members of the public, who have continued to sign the registers as a mark of honour, solidarity, and respect.

The opening of the Condolence Registers offers a reflective space for individuals to express heartfelt sympathies, recount shared memories, and offer words of comfort to the nation and the bereaved family.
It also stands as a celebration of the enduring legacy of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who, beyond serving as the President of Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, was a former Federal Commissioner for Petroleum and Natural Resources (March 1976 – June 1978) and played a significant role in shaping Nigeria’s oil and gas landscape.
The Ministry of Petroleum Resources stands united with the nation and the international community in mourning the loss of a visionary leader and patriotic statesman whose contributions to national development, particularly in the petroleum sector, will remain etched in history.
