The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, North Central Nigeria, has elected a new set of officials to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.
The election took place during the party’s state congress held in Jos, the state capital.
Announcing the results, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Dr. David Umbugadu, declared 39 candidates who vied for different positions as duly elected officials.
Although all candidates emerged through consensus, delegates still cast their votes to affirm their choices.
Umbugadu described the exercise as transparent and credible, noting that it was conducted in the presence of representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other key stakeholders.
“The process of this election is transparent and clear. We did this in the presence of INEC and other observers. By the powers conferred on me by our great party, the PDP, I hereby declare all of you duly elected,” he announced.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected State Chairman, Mr. Raymond Dabo, pledged to lead the party with commitment and dedication, assuring members of inclusive leadership.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who congratulated the new executives, charged them to foster unity and reconciliation within the party as they prepare for the 2027 general elections.
“Your first task is to unite the party and heal all divisions,” Mutfwang said. “The era of exclusion is over. Let everyone resolve their grievances. Set aside selfish interests and work for the collective progress of the PDP. There are no more factions in the party.”
