Plateau State: Shun social vices – Vice-Chancellor urges Students

The Plateau State University, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bernard Matur, has urged students to shun social vices during their time at the university.

He stated this during the institutions fifteenth combined matriculation ceremony of over three thousand fresh students for the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions.

Prof. Bernard Matur, while congratulating the students said; ”It is a privilege that you are admitted out of the thousands that applied to be students in this university. I congratulate you all. I urge all of you to take advantage of the best opportunity to access premium quality and affordable education in this great institution.You should embrace hard work and exhibit quality attitudes at all times,” he said.

He assured parents and guardians of the safety of their wards in the wake of the current security crisis affecting the Institution

“With regards to security, far-reaching measures have been taken to address this. Among the measures so far taken are solidifying the security architecture of the University and its environs by using conventional and non conventional modes.

“The University currently has officers and men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Hunters Association of Nigeria, the Nigerian police and the Special Task Force of the Nigerian Army.” He stated

Prof.  Matur expressed gratitude to Gov. Caleb Mutfwang for his support in developing the university and also for the release of funds for the settlement of backlog of Staff Salaries.

The Speaker of the Plateau House of Assembly, Mr Gabriel Dawan, also commended the State Governor for putting efforts toward the provision of quality education in the state.

Dewan, an alumnus of the Institution, promised to support the governor in his bid toward placing the state on a path to steady growth and development.

The Commissioner of Education, Plateau State, Mrs Kachollom Gang, shared valuable insights with the matriculating students.

She urged them to perceive their academic journey as a race, highlighting personal responsibility and hard work.

The Commissioner emphasized the governor’s commitment to education and the state’s determination to regain its former reputation for providing quality education.

The Matriculating students were drawn from the: Faculty of Art, Law, Social Sciences, Sciences, Agriculture.
