Paul Pogba looked back to his best for Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side hit Leeds for five in their Premier League opener.

With Bruno Fernandes hitting a hat-trick and Mason Greenwood and Fred also getting in on the act, the France midfielder was creator-in-chief on a sunny day in Manchester.

The 28-year-old has been criticised for his United performances throughout his five years back at the club, but he barely put a foot wrong in the opening fixture of the 2021/22 campaign.

Gary Lineker and Jermaine Jenas were just two of several ex professionals who picked out Pogba for applause following his spectacular performance in front of more than 70,000 fans.

Lineker said: “He’s a lovely footballer is @paulpogba.”

Jenas wrote: “A @paulpogba assist clinic.”

In becoming the first United player to ever assist four goals in a single Premier League fixture, Pogba also beat his assist tally for the entirety of last season.

Having been pegged back by Luke Ayling, United regrouped with a fresh formation and ran riot.
